Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in technology, consulting, shared services, finance, engineering, logistics and tourism, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Cyberjaya. For an island lifestyle, Penang combines beaches, heritage streets, excellent food and a substantial professional community. Langkawi is quieter and more relaxed, with resorts, nature and lower-density living, while Sabah and Sarawak offer outdoor experiences and growing regional economies. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas can be more expensive. International employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Before relocating, confirm visa eligibility, salary, healthcare, tax obligations, housing and schooling requirements. Public transport is strongest in major cities, while island living usually requires a car or scooter.
