Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor and, increasingly, Sabah and Sarawak. Consulting and ERP professionals can find work with global firms, banks, manufacturers, shared-service centers and growing digital businesses. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences; English is widely used in corporate settings. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur is more expensive. Penang offers a relaxed island lifestyle and a strong technology and manufacturing base, while Langkawi is quieter and tourism-focused. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Candidates should confirm qualifications, salary thresholds and current immigration rules before relocating. Housing, healthcare, transport and visa costs should be discussed in the employment package.
