Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers technology opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor, with demand in cloud computing, telecommunications, software, cybersecurity, shared services and consulting. Kuala Lumpur provides the largest job market, while Penang is known for electronics and engineering; Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak offer a slower island or coastal lifestyle but fewer specialist technology roles. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, diverse food, festivals and generally welcoming communities. Living costs are moderate compared with many regional technology hubs, though central Kuala Lumpur housing is more expensive. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the employer must meet current immigration and salary requirements. Candidates should secure a written offer, confirm sponsorship, arrange housing and healthcare, and check official visa rules before relocating.
