Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied work and lifestyle options across Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Selangor provide the widest range of engineering, consulting, technology, and corporate jobs, while Penang is strong in electronics and manufacturing. Langkawi, Sabah, and Sarawak offer attractive island and coastal lifestyles but have fewer specialised professional roles. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous traditions, with excellent food and generally affordable living costs. Cities provide modern transport, healthcare, shopping, and international schools, while island areas offer beaches, diving, nature, and a slower pace. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the employer handling much of the application process. Qualifications, medical checks, and immigration approval may be required. Research local regulations, housing, schooling, healthcare, and taxation before relocating.
