Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, merchandising, sourcing, IT, engineering, tourism, finance, logistics, and shared services. The country has a multicultural society shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences; English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages. Life is generally affordable compared with many international destinations, although Colombo housing and transport costs are higher. The island provides beaches, tea country, wildlife parks, historic cities, and a relaxed social lifestyle, with warm tropical weather year-round. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Interns should confirm sponsorship, duration, accommodation, insurance, and local registration before relocating. Public transport is inexpensive, but traffic can be heavy. Colombo is the main corporate hub, while major manufacturing facilities are located across several regions.
