Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and textiles, information technology, tourism, finance, engineering, logistics, healthcare, and education. Colombo is the main commercial center and has the widest range of professional roles, while Kandy, Galle, Katunayake, and regional industrial zones also provide employment. The culture combines South Asian traditions, multiple ethnic communities, religious festivals, welcoming social customs, and a strong food culture. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many major international cities, although Colombo housing and imported goods can be expensive. The island provides beaches, mountains, wildlife parks, and historic cities, with warm weather year-round and regional monsoon differences. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work or residence visa and should confirm current requirements with Sri Lankan immigration authorities. Relocating employees should arrange a contract, accommodation, medical cover, tax advice, and local banking before arrival.
