Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers strong career opportunities in apparel and textiles, tourism, information technology, finance, logistics, engineering, and international business. Colombo and nearby areas provide the widest range of professional roles, while manufacturing opportunities are also available in regional industrial zones. The country has a warm tropical climate, welcoming communities, diverse religions, and rich Sinhala, Tamil, and colonial cultural influences. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although Colombo is more expensive than smaller cities. English is widely used in business, with Sinhala and Tamil being the main local languages. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa sponsored or supported by an employer; tourists cannot legally work. Interns should confirm visa requirements, accommodation, insurance, transport, and allowance details with MAS before relocating.
