Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, education, healthcare, and business services. Colombo and nearby industrial areas have the broadest job market, while places such as Kandy, Galle, Katunayake, and Kurunegala also provide opportunities. The country has a warm tropical climate, diverse regional traditions, friendly communities, and a relaxed lifestyle shaped by family, food, religion, and festivals. Living costs are generally lower than in many international business centers, although Colombo is more expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employment visa or residence approval arranged with employer support before starting work; tourist visas do not permit employment. Relocating candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, taxation, healthcare, transport, and contract conditions with the employer. Sinhala and Tamil are official languages, while English is widely used in corporate workplaces.
