The Engineering Coordinator supports the hotel’s Engineering and Facilities team with administration, work-order tracking, maintenance records, purchasing documentation, contractor coordination, staff schedules and departmental communications. The role typically requires strong organisation, computer and Microsoft Office skills, accurate record keeping, professional communication and the ability to prioritise several requests in a busy hotel environment. Previous administrative or hospitality experience is advantageous, while technical knowledge of building services, preventive maintenance and health and safety is helpful. As an Emirati National position, the candidate is expected to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, teamwork and a willingness to learn hotel engineering operations while supporting Shangri-La’s service standards.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and recognised internationally for its hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other destinations. The group is known for personalised service, elegant properties and its Asian-inspired spirit of hospitality. Shangri-La hotels commonly provide accommodation, dining, wellness, events and business facilities, supported by large operational and engineering teams. In the United Arab Emirates, the company operates luxury properties serving leisure guests, corporate travellers and high-profile events. Employees generally work in a multicultural environment with structured hotel procedures, training opportunities and strong emphasis on guest satisfaction, teamwork, safety and professional presentation.
The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than a single island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the broadest hospitality and engineering opportunities. The country has a modern, international lifestyle, excellent infrastructure, warm weather and extensive shopping, dining, beaches and desert activities. Emirati culture values family, respect, modesty and hospitality; Islamic customs should be observed, particularly during Ramadan. Employers normally arrange an employment residence visa, work permit, medical screening and Emirates ID, although candidates should confirm benefits, accommodation, transport and insurance before relocating. English is widely used in hotels, while Arabic is valuable for local communication. Living costs can be high, especially in Dubai, so housing or a housing allowance is important. UAE labour rules and visa conditions can change, so applicants should verify current requirements with the employer and official government sources.
