Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers opportunities in hospitality, tourism, property management, engineering, safety, restaurants and wellness, particularly in Bali, Java, Lombok and the Riau Islands. Bali is popular with expatriates because of its international community, strong resort industry and relaxed lifestyle, although housing and traffic can be challenging in busy areas. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, family and respectful communication; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is helpful. Lifestyle options range from beaches and outdoor activities to vibrant food, arts and nightlife scenes. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work and stay permit, commonly arranged through the company before employment begins. Requirements can include a work authorisation, limited-stay visa and supporting qualifications. Candidates should confirm the exact visa process with Shangri-La and Indonesian immigration authorities. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, health insurance, banking, transport and local registration.
