The Senior Events Manager is responsible for planning, selling and delivering conferences, weddings, meetings and other events from initial enquiry through completion. Requirements typically include several years of hotel or event-management experience, strong knowledge of banquet operations, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage budgets, contracts, vendors and event teams. The successful candidate should be commercially minded, organised, confident with clients and capable of handling multiple events under tight deadlines. Experience with luxury hospitality, corporate events and revenue generation is advantageous. The role also expects strong leadership, attention to detail, problem-solving ability and a professional approach when representing Shangri-La.
Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its properties are known for attentive service, comfortable accommodation, destination dining, wellness facilities and professional meeting and event spaces. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates established luxury hotels and resorts serving business travellers, leisure guests, weddings and large corporate functions. The company places strong emphasis on genuine hospitality, employee development, service excellence and cultural awareness. A Senior Events Manager would work closely with sales, banquet, culinary, front-office and operations teams to deliver memorable guest experiences while supporting the property’s commercial goals.
Malaysia offers varied opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, meetings and events, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and everyday life. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and resort islands can be more expensive. Langkawi and Penang provide a relaxed island atmosphere, while Kuala Lumpur offers stronger career networks and urban conveniences. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the hiring company must support the application and immigration process. Candidates should confirm eligibility, contract terms, accommodation, insurance and relocation benefits before accepting an offer. English is widely used in hospitality, though Malay and other languages are valuable. Malaysia’s tropical climate, diverse cuisine and welcoming communities make it attractive for hospitality professionals.
