Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, facilities management, construction, engineering, tourism, and marine services. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang, and parts of Sabah, while Kuala Lumpur and Johor provide broader urban employment options. Life on the islands is generally relaxed, with tropical weather, beaches, outdoor activities, and a multicultural community, although housing, transport, and imported goods may cost more in resort areas. Malaysian culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international influences; English is widely used in hospitality, while Malay is the national language. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must complete the relevant approval and immigration process before work begins. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, contract benefits, and work location before relocating. Malaysian citizens generally need only standard employment documentation and local registration procedures.
