Working in Singapore

Singapore is a compact island city-state and a major hub for hospitality, finance, technology, aviation and international business. Job opportunities are strong for experienced professionals, especially in luxury hotels, sales, events, revenue management and tourism, although competition is high. The culture is multicultural, professional and generally orderly, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle benefits include excellent public transport, safe neighbourhoods, diverse food, modern healthcare and easy regional travel. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central districts, so many newcomers compare condominium rentals with shared accommodation. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government assessment; the employer normally manages the application. Relocation costs, deposits, insurance and tax planning should be considered before accepting an offer. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
