Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact international city with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, logistics, finance, technology and tourism. The hospitality sector regularly hires part-time staff, especially for cleaning, food service, guest services and events. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, beaches and hiking trails. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels; Mandarin is also useful. Overseas workers generally need an appropriate employment visa before starting work, and employers usually support applications for eligible full-time roles. Part-time work rights depend on visa conditions, so applicants should confirm them with Hong Kong Immigration. Relocation costs can be high, particularly rent, and shared accommodation is common. New arrivals should arrange housing, transport access, insurance and a local bank account.
