Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied employment opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, technology, finance, education and international business. Kuala Lumpur is the main corporate hub, while Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort areas provide strong tourism and hotel employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in workplaces. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Perhentian and Redang are popular for beaches, diving and relaxed living. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must meet Malaysian immigration requirements before work begins. Applicants should confirm visa eligibility, contract benefits, accommodation, healthcare and tax obligations. Malaysia has warm weather year-round, with monsoon conditions varying by coast.
