Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, finance, shared services, technology, manufacturing, education and tourism. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak, while Kuala Lumpur and Johor provide broader corporate employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and hotels. Lifestyle costs are moderate, although central Kuala Lumpur and resort islands can be more expensive. Island living offers beaches, diving and a relaxed pace, but jobs may be seasonal and transport less convenient. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage, tax obligations and relocation support before accepting an offer. Local work authorization must be approved before employment begins.
