Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and other resort destinations. Island locations such as Langkawi and parts of Sabah provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and strong demand for hotel, events, restaurant and guest-service staff, although living costs and transport can differ from the mainland. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism, while Malay is the national language. International employees normally need an employment pass or appropriate work authorisation arranged and sponsored by the employer before starting work. A valid passport, recognised qualifications and medical or immigration documents may be required. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, working hours and visa sponsorship directly with Shangri-La before relocating.
