Candidates should have formal culinary training or relevant professional experience, with previous experience in a hotel, resort, restaurant, or high-volume kitchen preferred. The role requires sound knowledge of Western cooking techniques, menu preparation, portion control, stock management, hygiene, and HACCP practices. The successful candidate is expected to maintain consistent food quality, work efficiently during busy service periods, support junior kitchen colleagues, communicate well with the culinary team, and follow instructions from the Sous Chef and Executive Chef. Flexibility for shift work, weekends, public holidays, and strong teamwork are essential.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a luxury hospitality group founded in Asia and known for its service culture, refined accommodation, restaurants, and resort experiences. The group operates hotels and resorts across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international destinations. Shangri-La Singapore is a long-established luxury hotel set near Orchard Road, offering guest rooms, suites, extensive event facilities, restaurants, landscaped grounds, and recreational services. The property serves leisure travellers, business guests, families, and international events. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment with structured hotel operations, service training, and opportunities to develop within hospitality. Culinary team members are expected to uphold high standards of food quality, presentation, cleanliness, guest service, and professional conduct while working collaboratively across the kitchen and wider hotel departments.
Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, finance, technology, healthcare, and logistics. Its culture combines Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences, reflected in its festivals, languages, neighbourhoods, and famous hawker food. Lifestyle is convenient and fast-paced, with excellent public transport, safe streets, shopping centres, parks, beaches, and diverse dining. Accommodation and daily expenses can be high, especially near the city centre, so staff housing or careful budgeting may be important. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work pass; the appropriate pass depends on qualifications, salary, and occupation, and the employer normally manages the application. New arrivals should arrange valid travel documents, medical checks where required, accommodation, banking, and local transport access. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
