Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a fast-paced international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and extensive hospitality, finance, retail, aviation and technology opportunities. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; courtesy, efficiency and respect for hierarchy are important at work. Lifestyle options range from dense urban neighbourhoods and lively dining districts to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Housing is expensive, so many newcomers share apartments or live farther from the city centre. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval depending on qualifications, salary and the role. Bring certified documents, budget for deposits and initial accommodation, and confirm medical, visa and relocation arrangements before arrival. Cantonese helps socially, while English is widely used professionally.
