The Tea Master is responsible for creating and delivering an exceptional tea experience for guests, including selecting, preparing and serving premium teas, explaining their origins and characteristics, and maintaining high presentation and service standards. Candidates should have strong knowledge of Chinese and international teas, refined communication skills, and previous experience in luxury hospitality, tea service, restaurants or beverage operations. Fluency in English and Cantonese or Mandarin is advantageous. The successful candidate is expected to be courteous, detail-oriented, culturally knowledgeable and confident when engaging with guests. Responsibilities may also include staff training, tea-pairing recommendations, stock control and supporting the hotel’s food and beverage team.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its brands are known for warm Asian hospitality, personalized service and high standards in accommodation, dining, wellness and events. Shangri-La hotels typically provide extensive training, employee benefits and opportunities for international career development. The group places strong emphasis on guest satisfaction, cultural understanding and creating memorable experiences. In Hong Kong, Shangri-La properties serve business and leisure travelers through luxury rooms, restaurants, lounges, banquet facilities and spa services. A Tea Master role would support the group’s focus on refined dining, Chinese tea culture and premium beverage experiences while working within a sophisticated hotel operation.
Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with additional outlying islands. Hospitality opportunities are strong in luxury hotels, restaurants, tourism, events and retail, although competition is high and Cantonese is valuable; English is widely used in international hotels. The culture blends Chinese traditions with global influences, and tea, dim sum, festivals and family-centered customs are important. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking and coastal areas, but housing can be expensive and space is limited. Overseas employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their Hong Kong employer, with approval based on qualifications, a genuine vacancy and market-level pay. Employers may assist with relocation, accommodation, medical coverage and flights, so these benefits should be confirmed before accepting an offer.
