The Assistant Chief Steward supports the Chief Steward in managing the hotel’s stewarding operation, including kitchen cleanliness, dishwashing, waste handling, hygiene standards, equipment care and staff scheduling. Candidates should have experience in hotel or restaurant stewarding, preferably in a luxury property, along with knowledge of food safety, sanitation and workplace health requirements. The role requires practical leadership, good communication, strong organization and the ability to work under pressure across busy meal periods and events. Shangri-La expects a hands-on, reliable candidate who can train team members, monitor standards, control supplies and coordinate effectively with culinary and food-and-beverage departments.
Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group originating in Asia, operating hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and North America. Its properties are known for personalized service, refined guest experiences, extensive dining facilities and strong attention to local culture. Shangri-La hotels typically provide accommodation, restaurants, bars, banqueting, wellness and business services for leisure and corporate travelers. The group emphasizes hospitality excellence, colleague development, sustainability and creating a welcoming environment for guests and employees. In Hong Kong, Shangri-La operates prominent luxury hotels, including Island Shangri-La and Kowloon Shangri-La, serving international visitors, residents, business travelers and large-scale events.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, finance, retail and professional services, with especially active hiring for experienced hospitality supervisors and skilled operational staff. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, fast-paced business life and excellent food. Lifestyle highlights include efficient public transport, dense urban neighborhoods, hiking trails, beaches, shopping and vibrant nightlife, although housing can be expensive. Foreign employees normally require an employment visa sponsored by their employer; applicants must show a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience and a salary consistent with market standards. After approval, the employee receives a Hong Kong identity card. Relocating is easiest with employer assistance for visa paperwork, accommodation guidance, medical checks and banking. English is widely used in hotels, while Cantonese and Mandarin are valuable advantages.
