Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a fast-moving international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent transport and a strong hospitality, finance, retail and technology job market. Its culture blends Chinese traditions with global influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Life is convenient but costly, especially accommodation, although public transport is efficient and access to beaches, hiking trails, islands and country parks is excellent. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, with approval based on qualifications, experience, a genuine job offer and appropriate salary. Employers often assist with visa paperwork, but candidates should confirm housing, medical cover, tax, relocation expenses and probation terms before moving. Hong Kong has humid summers, mild winters and a diverse food scene. New arrivals should prepare for compact living, high rents and a competitive work culture, while enjoying exceptional connectivity and career exposure.
