About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a Hong Kong-based luxury hospitality company operating hotels, resorts and related properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its portfolio includes Shangri-La, Traders, Kerry Hotels and JEN brands. The company is recognised for personalised Asian-inspired hospitality, high service standards and strong attention to guest experience. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates well-known city hotels and resort properties, employing teams across accommodation, food and beverage, events, wellness and corporate functions. The group also promotes responsible business through community partnerships, environmental initiatives, employee volunteering and sustainability programmes. A CSR Executive would typically work with hotel departments and external stakeholders to turn these commitments into measurable local projects, communications and reports.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sustainability, education, technology and international business. Popular island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Perhentian and Kota Kinabalu provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches and strong tourism communities, while Kuala Lumpur and major mainland cities offer broader corporate career options. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages and daily life. Living costs vary significantly; island life can be pleasant but may involve fewer services, seasonal employment and higher transport costs. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit, and the company must meet immigration requirements before employment begins. Relocating requires checking visa conditions, medical coverage, accommodation, taxation and local transport. English is widely used in business, although learning basic Malay is helpful for community work and everyday relationships.
