Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism sales and hospitality management, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Island destinations such as Langkawi and Penang combine beaches, heritage, varied food and a relaxed lifestyle, while major cities provide better transport, shopping and professional networking. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; respectful dress, punctuality and sensitivity to religious customs are appreciated. Living costs vary, with Kuala Lumpur generally offering more housing choices and resort islands having fewer, sometimes more expensive options. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and should not begin work before approval. Employers usually handle much of the application process. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, service charge, contract length and relocation support before accepting a resort position.
