The Events Sales Coordinator supports the sales team in planning and delivering meetings, conferences, weddings and social functions. Typical requirements include a diploma or degree in hospitality, business or a related field, previous hotel or event experience, strong organisation and communication skills, and good knowledge of Microsoft Office. The successful candidate is expected to respond promptly to enquiries, prepare proposals and contracts, coordinate arrangements with operations teams, maintain accurate records, assist with site inspections and follow up with clients professionally. Flexibility, attention to detail, confidence dealing with guests, and the ability to manage deadlines are important. Experience with hotel event systems and fluency in English are advantageous; additional Malaysian languages may be useful.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a Hong Kong-founded luxury hospitality group operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international destinations. The brand is known for personalised Asian hospitality, high service standards and distinctive city and resort properties. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates well-known hotels and resorts in locations including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi. Its properties serve leisure travellers, corporate clients, weddings and large conferences, creating opportunities across rooms, food and beverage, events, sales and guest services. Employees generally work in a multicultural environment with structured hotel procedures and opportunities to develop through on-the-job training. Exact benefits, service-charge arrangements, accommodation and career progression depend on the individual property and employment contract.
Malaysia offers attractive hospitality opportunities on islands such as Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor and parts of Sabah, particularly in resorts, events, food and beverage, guest relations and sales. Langkawi is relaxed and resort-focused, with beaches, island-hopping and a quieter lifestyle; Penang combines heritage, excellent food and a busier urban feel. Local culture is diverse, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous communities, with Islamic customs important in daily life. Living costs vary, and island transport may be less convenient than in Kuala Lumpur. International hires normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, approved before starting work; the company must meet Malaysian immigration requirements. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, meals, insurance, flights and transport in writing. Reliable planning is important because island roles can involve seasonal demand, humid weather and limited housing availability.
