The Senior Security Officer is responsible for protecting guests, colleagues, property and hotel assets while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Requirements typically include relevant hotel, commercial or law-enforcement security experience, good physical fitness, strong observation and communication skills, and knowledge of emergency response, access control, incident reporting and basic first aid. The successful candidate is expected to patrol the property, monitor surveillance systems, respond professionally to incidents, support evacuations and investigations, enforce hotel procedures, and coordinate with police or emergency services when required. Shift work, weekends and public holidays are normally necessary. Fluency in English and Cantonese is advantageous, while a valid Hong Kong security personnel permit may be required.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands, serving business and leisure travelers with accommodation, dining, wellness and meeting facilities. The group is known for Asian-inspired hospitality, attentive personal service and a strong focus on guest comfort. A hotel security role within Shangri-La combines professional safety responsibilities with a service-oriented approach: officers are expected to protect people and property while treating guests and colleagues courteously. Employment conditions, benefits and career-development opportunities vary by property, but large Hong Kong hotels commonly provide structured training, staff dining and opportunities to progress within hotel operations.
Hong Kong is a dense, international city with major opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, technology, logistics and professional services. Hotel employees may work on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon or in the New Territories; the city is connected by an efficient MTR network, buses, ferries and extensive hiking routes. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions, international communities, festivals, family-style dining and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Rent is high, so many employees share apartments or live farther from the hotel, although public transport makes commuting practical. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa and must show a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience and market-level pay. Employers usually support the application, but approval is required before starting work. Candidates should budget for deposits, medical checks, documentation and initial living expenses, and confirm accommodation, insurance and shift arrangements before relocating.
