Hong Kong is a major international business centre with strong opportunities in legal services, finance, technology, hospitality, property, aviation and retail. Although commonly associated with Hong Kong Island, the territory includes Kowloon, the New Territories and numerous outlying islands. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse dining, hiking trails, beaches and a high-density urban lifestyle. Eligible professionals normally require an employment visa sponsored by their Hong Kong employer; the company generally provides the contract and supporting documentation, while applicants must demonstrate relevant qualifications and experience. Relocation costs and housing can be significant, particularly on Hong Kong Island. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking and tax registration, and understand local employment and visa conditions before moving.
