Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, legal services, technology, real estate, retail, and international business. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences, with festivals, excellent cuisine, efficient public transport, and a fast-paced professional environment. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and vibrant nightlife to hiking trails, beaches, outlying islands, and quieter neighbourhoods. Qualified overseas professionals generally need an employment visa, commonly through the General Employment Policy, sponsored by the employer; approval depends on qualifications, a confirmed role, relevant experience, and market-level pay. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. Relocation costs can be high, especially rent, and salaries, tax, housing, healthcare, and schooling should be reviewed carefully. Hong Kong is compact and convenient, but work culture can be demanding. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, banking, health coverage, and an identity card after arrival.
