Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, finance, tourism, technology, and education, particularly in Bali, Jakarta, Lombok, Batam, and major Java destinations. Bali is popular with expatriates because of its international community, beaches, wellness scene, and established hospitality industry, though housing and traffic can be expensive. Indonesian culture values respect, politeness, family, community, and religious diversity; local customs should be observed, especially during ceremonies and around temples. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed coastal or rural communities. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and limited-stay visa, commonly arranged through the company before commencing work. Requirements can change, so candidates should confirm current immigration rules with Shangri-La and Indonesian authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, health insurance, banking, local transport, tax obligations, and learning basic Bahasa Indonesia.
