The group is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and distinctive properties in city and resort destinations. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates several well-known hotels and resorts, including properties in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi. Engineering teams play an important role in maintaining guest rooms, public areas, utilities, life-safety systems and resort facilities. Employees generally work in a multicultural environment with structured hotel operations, training opportunities and career mobility across the group. Benefits may include staff meals, uniforms, medical coverage, service-related incentives and discounted stays, depending on the property and employment terms.
Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, engineering, tourism, food and beverage, healthcare, technology and construction. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Pangkor, Redang, Perhentian, Tioman and parts of Sabah. Life is generally affordable outside major city centres, with tropical weather, diverse food, friendly communities and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Malay, English, Mandarin and Tamil are widely used, while English is common in tourism and business. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or another approved work permit before starting employment; requirements depend on nationality, salary and position. Employers usually manage the application, and candidates should confirm medical checks, accommodation, insurance and relocation support. Malaysia has good air links, modern shopping and healthcare facilities, although island living can involve higher prices, ferry or flight dependence and fewer specialised services. Valid electrical qualifications and recognition of overseas certificates should be checked before relocating.
