Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers hospitality and MICE opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok, Batam and other tourism islands. Bali is the most internationally oriented, with a relaxed lifestyle, strong resort market and active wedding and conference business. Jakarta and Java provide larger corporate networks, offices and year-round events, while Lombok and Batam offer growing resort and destination markets. Indonesian culture values respect, community, hospitality and religious diversity; modest dress and sensitivity to local customs are important. Living costs vary, with Bali and Jakarta generally more expensive than many other areas. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work and stay permit, commonly arranged through the company before employment begins. Candidates should verify current immigration rules, medical requirements, tax obligations and relocation benefits. English is valuable in international hotels, while Indonesian language skills improve daily life and client relationships.
