The Assistant Chief Steward supports the Chief Steward in managing kitchen stewarding operations, including dishwashing, cleaning, waste handling, equipment care and hygiene standards. Candidates should have hotel or restaurant stewarding experience, good knowledge of sanitation and workplace safety, and the ability to supervise and train team members. The role requires strong organisation, attention to detail, physical stamina and flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a clean, safe and efficient back-of-house environment, coordinate effectively with culinary and food-and-beverage teams, monitor supplies and uphold Shangri-La service and quality standards.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and recognised internationally for its hotels, resorts and distinctive Asian-inspired service. The group operates properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other major destinations. Shangri-La hotels typically offer accommodation, restaurants, meeting facilities, wellness services and leisure experiences, supported by a strong focus on genuine hospitality and personalised guest care. In Hong Kong, the company is associated with high-end properties serving business travellers, leisure guests, local residents and international events. Employees generally work in structured, multicultural environments with opportunities for training, internal mobility and career development. Stewarding teams play an important role in maintaining food-safety standards, kitchen efficiency and the overall quality expected in a luxury hotel.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and international business. Hospitality jobs are concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and major resort areas, with demand for experienced supervisors and skilled operational staff. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; politeness, efficiency and respect for hierarchy are valued at work. Lifestyle is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and vibrant nightlife, although housing can be expensive and space is limited. Hong Kong is not one island alone but a territory including Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Overseas employees normally need an employer-sponsored work visa, usually under the General Employment Policy, and must receive approval before starting work. Candidates should prepare verified qualifications, employment references and a valid passport. Relocation planning should include accommodation costs, medical cover, transport and local banking arrangements.
