About the employer

Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Asia and now operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. The brand is known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards and premium facilities, including restaurants, spas, meeting venues and leisure experiences. Shangri-La properties serve business travellers, families, groups and luxury holidaymakers, with each hotel reflecting its local setting while following the group’s international operating standards. In Indonesia, the company’s hospitality activities are associated with upscale urban and resort markets, where marketing teams promote accommodation, dining, events and destination experiences. Employees generally work in a structured, guest-focused environment with opportunities to collaborate across commercial, operational and corporate departments.

Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers major opportunities in hospitality, tourism, marketing and events, particularly in Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Lombok and the Riau Islands. Bali is the most popular relocation choice for resort professionals, with an international community, strong leisure culture and a relaxed lifestyle, although housing and traffic can be challenging. Indonesian workplaces value courtesy, teamwork, personal relationships and respect for seniority; English is common in international hotels, while Bahasa Indonesia is useful for daily life. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay authorization, so working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers often assist with immigration, accommodation or relocation arrangements, but this should be confirmed in the contract. Costs vary considerably: Bali resort areas are relatively expensive, while many mainland cities offer lower living costs. Healthcare and transport access should be checked before choosing a property.
