Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and known for hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. Its properties are recognised for personalised service, comfortable accommodation, restaurants, wellness facilities and distinctive local experiences. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates well-known city and resort properties, including hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and other destinations. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment guided by the company’s service philosophy and values of hospitality, respect and care. Benefits and working conditions vary by property and position, but hotel roles commonly include staff meals, uniforms, training, service-charge participation and career-development opportunities. The company offers entry-level and experienced paths across food and beverage, rooms, culinary, engineering, finance and guest services.
Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and professional services. Island-based hospitality work is especially common in Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah, with demand increasing during holiday periods. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in tourism. Lifestyle ranges from lively city living in Penang to relaxed beach communities in Langkawi or the east-coast islands. Costs are generally lower than in Singapore, though resort accommodation and transport can be limited. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work authorisation, such as an Employment Pass or relevant sector permit, before starting employment. Employers usually guide the application, medical checks and immigration process. Confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, service charge and visa sponsorship directly with the hiring property before relocating.
