Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. It offers extensive opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation, events, construction, technology and healthcare. The culture combines Islamic traditions, Emirati heritage and a highly international population; modest dress and respect for local customs are important. Lifestyle varies from fast-paced city living and shopping to beaches, desert activities and quieter coastal communities. Most foreign employees need employer-sponsored residence and work visas, usually arranged after accepting a job offer. Employers commonly provide medical insurance and may offer accommodation, transport or allowances, depending on the contract. New arrivals should budget for deposits, documentation and initial living costs. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are comfortable and popular for outdoor activities. English is widely used, though Arabic is the official language.
