About the employer

United Overseas Bank (UOB) is a major Singapore-based financial group with operations across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. Established in 1935, the bank provides retail and commercial banking, wealth management, corporate banking, investment services and digital financial solutions. UOB serves individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations and institutional clients through branches, digital platforms and relationship teams. In Malaysia, the bank offers personal banking products such as current and savings accounts, credit cards, loans, mortgages and wealth solutions, alongside business and corporate services. UOB generally looks for customer-focused, commercially minded employees who can work ethically, meet performance goals and support the bank’s long-term relationships with customers.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied employment opportunities in banking, finance, technology, manufacturing, tourism, logistics and shared services. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Petaling Jaya are the main professional centres, while Penang and Johor also attract international employers. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages and daily life. Urban living provides modern shopping, public transport, healthcare and extensive dining options, although traffic and housing costs can be significant. Malaysia’s islands and coastal destinations, including Langkawi, Penang, Perhentian and Redang, are popular for beaches and weekend travel. Foreign nationals generally need an employment pass sponsored by an approved employer; qualifications and salary thresholds may apply. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, medical coverage, banking access and tax registration. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay helps with everyday communication.
