As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) with Royal Mail Group, you will prepare, sort and deliver letters and parcels safely and on time, usually working outdoors and covering an allocated route on foot or by vehicle. The role requires a full UK driving licence where driving is involved, good physical fitness, reliability and the ability to work in changing weather. You should be organised, customer-focused and comfortable working independently, while also contributing positively to the wider delivery team. Candidates are expected to provide courteous service, protect mail securely, follow health and safety procedures, meet delivery targets and adapt to busy periods, including seasonal demand. Previous delivery experience is helpful but training is generally provided.
Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known delivery and logistics organisations. Its operations include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels across the UK, and international and commercial logistics services through associated businesses. The company serves households, small businesses, large organisations and online retailers, supported by a nationwide network of processing centres, delivery offices, vehicles and postal workers. Royal Mail plays an important role in connecting communities, particularly through its universal postal service. Employees work in a wide range of areas, including delivery, sorting, transport, engineering, customer service, technology and management. The organisation places strong emphasis on dependable service, safety, teamwork and customer care. Postal delivery roles offer practical, community-based work with structured training, employee benefits and opportunities to develop into supervisory or operational positions.
The United Kingdom is an island country made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, with varied cities, countryside and coastal communities. Job opportunities are strongest in London and other major cities, but delivery, logistics and transport roles are available nationwide. British workplace culture generally values punctuality, politeness, personal responsibility and clear communication. Lifestyle options range from busy urban living to quieter regional communities, although housing and transport costs vary considerably. Weather is changeable, and public transport is generally good in cities. Citizens of the UK and Ireland can work freely; most other nationals need a suitable visa, such as a Skilled Worker visa, but eligibility depends on the occupation, employer sponsorship and salary. Before relocating, check official UK government visa rules, arrange accommodation, confirm right-to-work documents and budget for deposits, transport and healthcare-related costs. Royal Mail vacancies specify their own eligibility requirements.
