As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie), you will sort and prepare mail, load your delivery vehicle, and deliver letters and parcels safely and efficiently across an assigned route. The role requires a valid UK driving licence, good road awareness, physical fitness, reliability, and the ability to work outdoors in changing weather. You should be comfortable walking, lifting and carrying mail, using handheld technology, and working independently while maintaining high customer-service standards. Royal Mail expects candidates to be punctual, professional, safety-conscious and flexible, including availability for varying shifts, weekends or seasonal demand. Previous delivery or customer-service experience can be helpful but is not always essential, as training is generally provided.

About the employer

Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known postal and delivery organisations. Its main operating businesses include Royal Mail, which provides letter and parcel delivery services across the UK, and international parcels company GLS. The organisation serves households, businesses and public-sector customers through a large network of post offices, delivery offices, processing centres, vehicles and employees. Royal Mail plays an important role in connecting communities, particularly through its universal postal service obligations. Its operations increasingly focus on parcel delivery, e-commerce logistics, tracking technology and more efficient delivery methods, while continuing to handle letters and other postal products. Employees work in a practical, customer-focused environment where reliability, teamwork, safety and meeting delivery commitments are central to daily operations.

Working in United Kingdom

The United Kingdom offers job opportunities in logistics, transport, healthcare, technology, construction, hospitality, finance and public services. Its culture is diverse and generally values punctuality, privacy, politeness and workplace professionalism, with regional differences across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Lifestyle choices range from busy cities and extensive public transport to quieter rural communities, though housing and commuting costs can be high in London and other major cities. International applicants normally need the appropriate UK visa before starting work; an employer may need to hold a sponsor licence, and eligibility depends on the occupation, salary and current immigration rules. A driving role may also require a valid UK licence and suitable insurance. New arrivals should budget for accommodation, utilities, transport, healthcare-related costs and visa fees, and check official UK government guidance before relocating.
