This role requires a Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent experience, with practical knowledge of diagnosing and repairing HGVs, trailers, braking systems, engines, electrical systems and vehicle safety equipment. Candidates should ideally hold relevant manufacturer training and a suitable driving licence, with strong health and safety awareness. The successful applicant will carry out planned servicing, inspections, fault finding and urgent repairs on Royal Mail vehicles during night shifts. The role requires reliability, independence, accurate record keeping and the ability to work safely under pressure. Flexibility for overnight, weekend and public-holiday work is expected.
Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom's best-known delivery and logistics organisations. Its operations include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels across the UK, and related parcel and international logistics services. The group operates a large national network of processing centres, delivery offices, vehicles and technology systems, supported by thousands of employees. Fleet maintenance is essential to keeping its HGVs, trailers and delivery vehicles safe, legal and available for daily operations. Employees may benefit from structured training, pension arrangements, holiday entitlement and opportunities to develop within engineering, transport and operational teams, depending on the role and employment terms. Royal Mail Group serves households, businesses and public-sector customers and continues to adapt to changing parcel volumes, digital communications and e-commerce demand.
The United Kingdom offers employment opportunities in transport, logistics, vehicle maintenance, engineering, healthcare, technology, construction and hospitality. Its culture combines historic traditions with diverse modern communities, and workplaces generally value punctuality, safety, professionalism and clear communication. Lifestyle varies from busy cities such as London, Manchester and Birmingham to quieter rural and coastal areas. Living costs are highest in London and the southeast, while many northern and Welsh locations are more affordable. Overseas workers normally need the appropriate visa before starting employment. A Skilled Worker visa may be possible where the occupation, salary and employer meet current Home Office requirements, but eligibility must be checked carefully because not every technician role qualifies. Relocating usually involves arranging accommodation, a National Insurance number, banking, healthcare access and transport. UK weather is changeable, and public transport is strongest in major cities; a driving licence may be useful for transport-based jobs.
