As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) with Royal Mail, you will sort and prepare mail, load your delivery vehicle, and deliver letters and parcels safely and efficiently across an allocated route. The role requires a full UK driving licence, safe and confident driving, good physical fitness, reliability, and the ability to work outdoors in changing weather. You should be organised, customer-focused, punctual, and comfortable working independently while meeting delivery targets. Good communication skills, attention to detail, and a professional attitude are expected. Previous delivery experience can be helpful but is not always essential, as training is generally provided.
Royal Mail Group is one of the United Kingdom’s best-known delivery and logistics organisations. Its operations include Royal Mail, which delivers letters and parcels throughout the UK, and GLS, an international parcel delivery business serving numerous countries. Royal Mail has a long-established nationwide network of sorting offices, delivery routes, vehicles and customer service facilities. The organisation supports individuals, households and businesses with letter delivery, parcel distribution, tracked services and specialist logistics solutions. Employees work in a wide range of roles, including delivery, transport, engineering, technology, customer service and management. As a major UK employer, Royal Mail typically offers structured training, pension benefits and opportunities for progression, although pay, working hours and benefits vary by role and location.
The United Kingdom comprises England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, offering varied job opportunities in logistics, healthcare, technology, finance, hospitality, engineering and public services. It has a diverse culture, historic cities, strong sporting traditions and a lively arts scene. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living in London, Manchester or Edinburgh to quieter coastal and rural communities. Public transport is extensive, though a car may be useful for delivery work outside cities. Most overseas workers need permission to work before arrival; employers generally expect a valid visa or settled status, and postal delivery roles may not qualify for Skilled Worker sponsorship. Relocating involves arranging accommodation, National Insurance, banking and healthcare access. Living costs are highest in London and the southeast, while many regional areas are more affordable.
