Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, engineering, logistics, education, healthcare, and business services. The island has a warm climate, diverse communities, and a culture shaped by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian traditions. Colombo provides the widest range of professional roles, while industrial employment is also available around Katunayake, Biyagama, Kandy, and other manufacturing zones. Living costs are generally lower than in many major international cities, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in Colombo. Public transport is affordable, but traffic can be challenging. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa sponsored or supported by an employer; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm current immigration requirements with Sri Lankan authorities or the nearest embassy before relocating. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages.
