About the employer

Healthcare New Zealand is a major provider of health, disability and community support services across New Zealand. The organisation supports older people, people living with disabilities, individuals experiencing mental health challenges and others who need assistance to remain connected, independent and active in their communities. Its services may include home support, personal care, rehabilitation, nursing, disability support and community-based assistance. Support workers are an important part of the organisation’s workforce, providing practical help and encouraging clients to achieve their personal goals. Healthcare New Zealand promotes person-centred care, respect, inclusion and safety. Depending on the position, employees may receive induction, structured training, professional development and support from experienced coordinators or clinical staff. Work is often delivered in clients’ homes and local communities, making empathy, reliability, sound judgement and a genuine interest in helping people especially important.

Working in New Zealand

New Zealand offers support-worker opportunities throughout both the North and South Islands, particularly in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Dunedin and regional communities. Demand is generally strongest in aged care, disability support, mental health, home care and community services. The North Island has larger urban job markets, warmer weather and diverse communities, while the South Island offers a quieter lifestyle, attractive scenery and outdoor activities. New Zealand culture is generally friendly, practical and inclusive, with strong respect for personal space, fairness and work-life balance. Living costs can be high, especially rent in Auckland and Wellington; regional areas may be more affordable but have fewer services and jobs. Overseas workers need a visa allowing employment, such as an Accredited Employer Work Visa, if eligible. Check Immigration New Zealand requirements, qualification recognition, police checks, driver-licence rules and employer accreditation before relocating.
