The Support Worker assists people with disabilities, older adults, or health-related needs in their homes and communities. Typical duties include personal care, meal preparation, household support, medication prompts, transport, companionship, and encouraging independence. Applicants should be caring, reliable, patient, physically capable, and able to communicate respectfully with clients, families, and colleagues. Relevant support-work or caregiving experience is useful, although training may be provided. A current New Zealand work entitlement, police or background check, references, and sometimes a full or restricted driver licence may be required. The successful candidate is expected to work flexibly, follow care plans and health-and-safety procedures, maintain confidentiality, and provide dependable person-centred support across Whangarei.
Healthcare New Zealand is a major provider of community-based health, disability, aged-care, rehabilitation, and support services across New Zealand. The organisation works with people in their homes and local communities, helping them live safely, independently, and with greater choice. Its workforce includes support workers, nurses, allied health professionals, coordinators, and other care specialists. Services can include home support, personal care, rehabilitation, disability assistance, mental-health support, and respite care. The company places emphasis on person-centred service, cultural respect, dignity, safety, and working in partnership with clients and their families. In a Support Worker position, employees generally work directly with clients, follow individual care plans, record relevant information, communicate with coordinators, and contribute to positive everyday outcomes. Roles may involve varied locations, flexible shifts, and ongoing training.
New Zealand offers opportunities in healthcare, aged care, disability support, construction, agriculture, hospitality, education, technology, and trades. The North Island includes Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, and Whangarei, while the South Island is known for Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown, and regional industries. New Zealand culture is generally friendly, informal, and multicultural, with strong respect for personal space, work-life balance, and Māori values and traditions. Lifestyle benefits include outdoor recreation, beaches, mountains, national parks, and relatively clean cities, although housing and transport costs can be high in popular areas. Overseas applicants need a visa that permits employment; options may include an Accredited Employer Work Visa, working-holiday visa, or residence pathway, depending on nationality, age, qualifications, and the role. Check Immigration New Zealand for current requirements. Relocating workers should arrange accommodation, a bank account, tax number, healthcare access, and appropriate local transport.
