Working in Indonesia

Bali is Indonesia’s most established island destination for hospitality careers, with opportunities in hotels, resorts, villas, restaurants, wellness centres, events, and tourism services. Ubud is known for its art, rice terraces, temples, yoga, and quieter lifestyle, while southern areas offer busier nightlife and beaches. Living costs vary considerably: accommodation and transport are usually more affordable outside major tourist centres, though rents in popular areas can be high. Balinese Hindu culture is central to daily life, and respectful dress and behaviour at temples and ceremonies are important. Foreign employees generally need employer sponsorship and the appropriate Indonesian work and stay permits; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers commonly assist with documentation, but candidates should confirm benefits, housing, taxes, insurance, and relocation support before accepting an offer. Indonesian language skills and cultural sensitivity are valuable.
