The Sous Chef – Pastry & Bakery supports the Executive Chef and leads the pastry and bakery section at W Dubai – The Palm. Requirements typically include professional culinary training, several years of pastry or bakery experience in an upscale hotel or restaurant, strong knowledge of breads, desserts, cakes, chocolate and food presentation, and practical experience supervising a kitchen team. The successful candidate is expected to maintain Marriott and food-safety standards, control quality and costs, plan production, manage stock, train colleagues, and deliver consistent products during busy service periods. Creativity, organisation, attention to detail, teamwork, flexibility and the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays are essential.
W Dubai – The Palm is a luxury lifestyle hotel located on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, and operates under the W Hotels brand, part of Marriott International. W Hotels is known for bold design, energetic dining and nightlife, contemporary guest experiences and a youthful, fashion-forward atmosphere. The property combines stylish accommodation with restaurants, lounges, beach facilities, event spaces and wellness offerings. Marriott International is one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, operating thousands of hotels and resorts across numerous brands and countries. Employees generally benefit from an international working environment, structured training, Marriott staff travel programmes and opportunities for career progression across the group. In this role, the successful candidate would contribute to the hotel’s pastry and bakery operation while working within Marriott’s service, quality, hygiene and people-development standards.
The United Arab Emirates is not an island country, although Dubai includes coastal areas and Palm Jumeirah, where W Dubai is located. The UAE offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, catering, aviation, retail and tourism, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a highly international population; respectful dress, local customs and religious practices should be observed. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, dining, desert activities and a busy social scene, though summers are extremely hot. Most overseas employees require employer-sponsored residency and a work permit; the employer normally arranges medical testing, Emirates ID and visa processing. Contracts may include accommodation or an allowance, transport, meals, insurance and flights. Candidates should verify salary, benefits, probation, leave, accommodation and relocation costs before accepting an offer.
