About the employer

The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is a luxury island resort located in the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Maldives. It operates under The Westin brand, part of Marriott International, and focuses on wellness, restorative experiences, and upscale hospitality. The resort offers villas, dining venues, spa facilities, recreation, water activities, and personalised guest services in a tropical setting. As a Marriott property, it follows international hotel standards and serves leisure travellers, honeymooners, wellness guests, and luxury holidaymakers from global markets. Employees typically work in a multicultural team and receive exposure to resort operations, international sales, marketing, and guest-relations practices. Remote-island employment commonly includes staff accommodation, meals, transportation support, and access to resort facilities, subject to the specific employment contract.

Working in Maldives

The Maldives offers opportunities in resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, spa services, housekeeping, finance, engineering, sales, and guest relations. Resort islands provide a structured lifestyle with staff housing, meals, recreation, and a close international community, while local islands offer a more traditional experience. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, family values, seafood, island traditions, and strong hospitality. Alcohol is generally restricted to resort islands, and modest dress is expected on inhabited local islands. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa; employers usually arrange the application, medical checks, arrival transfers, and accommodation. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, duty hours, leave, flights, insurance, internet access, and housing conditions in writing. Travel between islands may involve domestic flights or speedboats, and remote locations can have limited shopping and healthcare, so planning and cultural sensitivity are important.
