Working in Japan

Japan offers hospitality, tourism, restaurant, retail, technology, manufacturing, education and healthcare opportunities, with major employment centers in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and regional cities such as Fukui. Fukui provides a quieter, more affordable lifestyle, strong local communities, excellent food, coastal scenery and access to mountains, while winters can bring substantial snow. Japanese culture values punctuality, respect, cleanliness, teamwork and careful attention to detail. Public transport is reliable, although a car can be useful in regional areas. Foreign workers generally need an appropriate work visa before starting employment; hotel roles may qualify under the Specified Skilled Worker pathway or another suitable status, depending on duties and qualifications. Employers may assist with documentation, but applicants should confirm sponsorship, language requirements, housing, insurance and relocation costs directly. Learning conversational Japanese will greatly improve daily life and career prospects.
