Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, engineering, construction, manufacturing, education, technology and healthcare. Sarawak, on Borneo, has employment hubs including Bintulu, Kuching and Miri, particularly in hospitality, energy and industrial services. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, with excellent food, festivals and generally welcoming communities. Lifestyle costs are usually lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although housing and transport vary by location. Bintulu is quieter than Kuala Lumpur, with beaches, nature areas and access to national parks. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or other approved work authorization; the employer typically handles the application, and work should not begin before approval. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage, tax treatment, relocation support and contract terms before moving. English is widely used in business, while Malay is the national language.
