Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in technology, finance, telecommunications, engineering, healthcare, education, and international business, particularly in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Work culture values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respect for hierarchy, although multinational companies often provide more flexible environments. Daily life is safe, efficient, and convenient, with excellent public transport, varied food, modern cities, and easy access to mountains, beaches, and cultural sites. Housing and commuting costs are highest in Tokyo. Foreign professionals generally need an appropriate work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa or a Highly Skilled Professional visa. Employers typically sponsor the application, while applicants provide qualifications, employment documents, and sometimes proof of experience. Before relocating, arrange accommodation, health insurance, a residence card, tax registration, and banking. Learning basic Japanese greatly improves workplace integration and everyday life.
