Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates, rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the broadest hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation and business opportunities. The country is multicultural and generally welcoming, while local customs emphasise modesty, respect, punctuality and sensitivity during Ramadan. Dubai offers a fast-paced lifestyle, modern housing, beaches, shopping, international dining and extensive leisure activities, although rent and schooling can be expensive. Employers usually arrange an employment entry permit, medical examination, Emirates ID and residence visa, with health insurance commonly provided. Employees should not work on a tourist visa and should confirm accommodation, transport, probation, gratuity and visa sponsorship terms before relocating. English is widely used in hotels, while Arabic is the official language. Public transport is strong in Dubai, but many resort employees use staff transport or taxis.
